After more than a year of missing everyone and especially that sense of festival togetherness, I’m thrilled to kick off my own 2021 festival season with an event that feels just like its name sounds: The Subdued Stringband Jamboree. In 2019, it was a blessing to perform at Subdued alongside Jeff Scroggins on banjo. This year, I’ll perform solo on the side stage on Friday afternoon (8/13), and I’ll again offer a workshop: Mandolin Essentials.
Also note: my friend Epi Martinez from South Texas and his beloved mother Cruz Martinez will appear on the Subdued mainstage, both members of the Tejano Roots Music Hall of Fame. I recently joined Epi on stage a few times in Port Townsend, contributing mandolin alongside his brilliant bajo quinto work and doing my best to sing his mother’s high harmonies.
