Check out these two Fall 2024 course offerings as part of the Cornish+ Continuing Education series. Both sessions are scheduled on Mondays starting in late September. Find them and register on the Cornish+ website under the fall music course offerings. Spread the word to anyone who you think might benefit — financial assistance is available, seniors 55+ receive a 15% discount.
The first course offering is “American Roots Ensemble” (Mondays 1:30pm). I’ll present a broad sampling of material and repertoire from across North America, and the class will choose its own distinct areas of extended focus for ensemble work. Through hands-on experience of major evolutionary threads in American music, the group will explore a wide variety of musical styles, including how to play, interact and communicate with other players within those styles.
The second course, “Mandolin Skill Development” (Mondays 6:30pm), will be a deep dive into all things mandolin, including hands-on ensemble work in a breadth of styles and settings. The class will engage in a range of approaches to mandolin tone, timing, harmony, and improvisation, as well as practical applications such as backing up a singer or playing in a dance band. If you dream of expanding your own mandolin toolkit, this class is definitely for you. If you know an intermediate mandolin player, someone who would benefit from this course, be sure to let them know. The sessions each week will be super fun. You and your mandolin will be brimming with joy and confidence.
