Sircely & Lichtenstein at John and Peter’s
Kate Lichtenstein and Matt Sircely both grew up in the countryside near New Hope, Pennsylvania, and they both started young playing guitar, singing and writing songs. Encountering each other in the Seattle area twenty-five years later, they soon realized how much they share in common. By then, Kate had become a fiddler in high demand for dances and workshops, also fronting an electric country band in the city. Matt was established as a leading swing mandolinist and instructor, a multi-instrumentalist adept at many traditional and modern styles. Now, the Sircely & Lichtenstein duo brings a focus to their own compositions, accompanying each other’s original songs with heartfelt harmonies and soulful musicianship.
Throughout their careers, Kate and Matt have become regarded as musical pollinators in their respective musical communities. Now, they are uniting two extensive repertoires to encompass a breadth of influences: acoustic and electric, old-time field recordings, forward-thinking improvisations, vintage folk and country classics. Their own original songs are laden with plot twists and a wide variety of rhythmic grooves.
